this is a rough estimate on what I spend for a family of 6
we go thru a loaf of bread a day store brand $1 each x 30 days: $30 a month
Milk a gallon every other day at about $4 a gallon $60 a month
eggs about a two dozen a week @ $2 each $16 a month
meat i buy a 3lb roll for $10 I use two a week $80 a month
chicken about 1 pack a week @ $9 a pack $36 a month
produce: I buy 2 heads of lettuce, 8 tomatoes, 4 cucumbers, bag of potatoes, bag of apples, 2 bunches of bananas, broccoli, carrots, celery each a week about $50 a week for these $200 a month
cereal/oatmeal about $10 a week, about $40 a month (cheap store brand)
dairy/yogurt etc about $10 a week, $40 a month
This is just the basics and it comes up to over $500 a month. I spend about $800 a month when you add in other stuff to go with dinners, pack lunches, etc. I don't ever see coupons for stuff like milk, meat, produce etc so that doesnt help me much. I try to shop sales but that doesnt help a ton. What else can I do?
Eggs. We found a coworker of Dh's has cage free chickens. So we get them a lot cheaper than at the grocery store.
We no longer drink milk.
My kiddos love oatmeal and I buy the whole rolled oats...no instant. I mix in fresh fruit and I make up my own instant packets.
For fresh veg and fruit I shop at our Winn dixie and farmers market.
do you meal plan? so buy1get1 deals?
we go to a butchers, buy meat in bulk and it saves us a bunch. I go every other month.
