WILKESBORO, N.C. —A man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of robbing a bank and leaving the scene on a scooter.

James Edward Porter, 48, of Wilkesboro, was arrested following an incident just before 4 p.m. at the Yadkin Valley Bank at 301 W. Main St.

The suspect passed a note to a teller and left with cash, Wilkesboro police said.

The suspect was seen leaving the scene on a scooter, police said.

Porter was found on south West Street shortly after the incident. The missing money was found on Porter's person, police said.

Porter was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and was held under a $75,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court April 10.
