Seems to me, even if you teach your child who God is, someone else will still tell him/her who God isn't, and your child will have to make up his/her own mind, as everyone does at some point.

That's true, they will have to make their own decision at some point. But, as a parent you have done your job by teaching them who He is. No one can force anyone to believe anything.
