Why don;'t they make FS like WIC?

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

Give you a check and state what you can and can't buy on it.

WIC: Bread, milk, eggs, beans, cereal, juice, tuna!!

FS: Card with $$ on it!?

Dumb?

Unlike many on here, I made sure I could care for my kids and I don't depend on the government to feed them nor would I bitch about what limits they have if I needed it.

Quoting Anonymous:

The more you speak the dumber you sound.  Go somewhere else control freak

Quoting talia-mom:

Yep.  I believe the government should control what kids get when the program is about nutrition (please look up the title of the program before you try to tell me I am warong) and that people should be able to spend the money they earn on stuff they want.

I know.   Actually thinking freedom when you earn it is a terrible thing for people like you.

Quoting Anonymous:

Yeah ironically you are only worried about people on fs, get out of here with that bullshit you control freak

Quoting talia-mom:

Yep.  I want kids to have healthy food.   I am such a terrible person.  I actually care about feeding kids food and not just throwing something on a plate.

Quoting Anonymous:

And you have control issues, you might want to get that checked out by a professional, I am sure there is some kind of medication for that.

Quoting talia-mom:

Actually, you were a beggar.   You signed up to beg the government for money for food.   It should be limited and I hope within the next few years it is.

Quoting Anonymous:

Hate to tell you this but it is their money, as much as you do not like it it is.  No I was not a beggar, we just hit a rough patch, not everyone on fs is scum.

Quoting talia-mom:

Nope.  Food Stamps should be limited.   It isn't your money.   It is charity for beggars.   They get what is offered.

Quoting Anonymous:

So if the child is not on medicade then they are free to buy whatever they want?  We have been on fs while my husband and I where both working and my kids medical was coved through my husbands work.

Quoting talia-mom:

Because these kids are usually on medicaid as well.

The government needs to save money everywhere.

Quoting Anonymous:

Wait wait wait I thought this was about kids being healthy, shouldn't all parents have to feed their kids healthy food?  Why just people on fs?

Quoting illinoismommy83:

Limiting government spending on processed crap makes sense. Ruining the free market economy is positively stupid, especially for a country that is in a recession like we are.

Quoting Anonymous:

Well if you are looking at it that way shouldn't everyone in America be forced to live that way?  Not just people on fs?  Give every household a card to scan and you can only buy so much of everything a month.  Sound good?

Quoting illinoismommy83:

Her kids would be just fine living on fresh produce and some protein and dairy. No one needs pancakes. Think how healthy kids would be if their "go to" snack was fruits and veggies in the fridge instead of chips in the pantry.

Quoting Anonymous:

I understand what you are saying but what about the people who do not know how to cook.  I know a girl who had absolutely no cooking skills at all.  I swear she could burn water.  No her kids did not eat the best but I have seen kids eat much worse.  She always had fresh fruits and veggies in the house but could not make a pancake to save her own life so she always had frozen pancakes in the house.  She was not on food stamps, but this is the first thing that came to my mind.

Quoting illinoismommy83:

I wish food stamps was changed to a program where you had free reign in what you bought, but you could only buy certain kinds of foods. All fresh meats, veggies, fruits, and other "whole" foods with freedom, and then you could buy ingredients in their least processed form (like butter, sugar, flour). Basically just cutting out packaged foods. No frozen pizzas, but you could make your own pizza. No chips, but you could make your own chips, etc. No french fries, but you could buy potatoes and oil...

The reason for this, is you get people on food stamps who get $600 a month and get used to buying without thinking and go overboard on pre-packaged crap, then they get on their feet and have to provide their own food and are unable to cook basic meals because their food always came frozen and pre-made.

There are 0 allergy issues when users have full range of whole foods. Can't eat gluten? Don't buy gluten. You don't NEED gluten-free alternatives that are pre-packaged. Oranges are naturally gluten free.

If we'd had the money, dumbass...we wouldn't have been on assistance in the first place!!!

Quoting talia-mom:

Then buy your own stuff that FS won't cover brainiac.

Quoting Tal0n:

Because different people have different nutritional needs, dumbass.

When I was on FS, I was SO grateful they covered Ensure.  Because Ensure, Gatorade and Hawaiian punch were the only things I could keep down at the time. And Ensure isn't cheap.

no, the government should not be able to regulate it...i wouldn't want anyone telling me what to eat, food stamps or not.. i mean really its my choice...

Quoting Anonymous:

But if the government is paying for the food, shouldn't they be able to regulate what's being bought with it? Socialism is a wonderful thing!

Quoting buzymom93:

well just because someone is low income doesn't mean that the government should tell them how to eat!  a person should be able to eat how and what they want...  whether a person chooses to eat healthy or not doesn't matter to anyone else, its their life, their choice..

too many people worry about what everyone else is doing, its ridiculous

Quoting sheymann:

You can buy food. Any food, whateverr you want. It doesn't have to be healthy or even actual food. It can be junk food, soda, etc.

OP: I agree with you. If you're on FS you shouldn't be able to load up your card with junk food. I'm not saying zero junk food but not mostly.

Quoting peaches_04:

I think they do to an extent

Idk, allergies maybe? I think with wic you can tell them what you're allergic to and they change it.
Could be wrong though.

Nope you are right. They can change it.

Don't be any more of an idiot than you can help.  Gods forbid anything catastrophic ever happen to you or yours.  Hopefully you'll just die, so as to be spared the indignity of being on PA.

Such a nice person.   I explain the truth and you wish me death.  It must suck to hate people that can actually provide for their children.

Not what a person buys but what a person takes government assistance to buy

Quoting AngeLnChainZ:

Because to try and control what a person buys and eats to that extent is seriously ludicrous
