Before cafemom... I never knew...

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post
That moms had such strong opinions on formula feeding vs. Breast feeding. In real life people act like they don't much care, here its like world war 3 anytime the topic is brought up.

That circumcision was cause for debate. Honestly, I just didn't think it was a big deal until I saw the battle royales going on on cafemom.

What ERFing was. I had my first son 7.5 yrs ago. I turned him forward facing at the minimum for the state regs. Not long after I joined cafemom I saw debates galore about ERFing. It just wasn't something I ever would have heard of had it not been for cafemom.

That PA made so many people mad. I never realized how many people hate PA, or think all people on PA are fat, lazy slobs who don't parent.. Etc.

How much crap they put in the food you buy at the store. Or in your detergents.. Not saying I'm blind to these things, I just never would have had reason to question any of it.

That people breast feed to five or six... I never would have guessed.

That cloth diapering was so popular.

That people argued about homeschooling vs public schooling. :/

What have you learned since joining? What arguments on here have surprised you? I know I now ERF my kids. Not to the extreme that some ladies do, but until 2. And my kids are in five point harnessess until 65lbs. I'll also be trying to breast feed this baby (tried the last two times with no success), but I'm going to try harder this time.

That fat people shouldn't be allowed to buy junk food.

I knew all that stuff. I've been on the internet since I was 12.

Extended Rear-Facing (for kids in carseats). They have studies out saying that it is 100-500% (sorry can't remember.. it's too early lol) safer than turning kids around at 1 and 20 pounds to the front. You can ask more about that in the Carseat Group or Google it if you are interested. Maybe someone else can chime in and tell you more about it. That is another thing I didn't know about before CM. Also everything else the OP listed. I didn't know about circumcision or anything else.. also that some people don't use toilet paper... ??? That's barf-o-rama, but eh.. They can do what they want. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I didnt know there were so many women arent able to have friendships thus turning to the internet for those connections. That is incredibly sad.

It shows. I went over to the ASD group and asked how to handle simple situations where an ASD kid is being bothersome or dangerous and the parents won't do anything and got bashed. I actually got told my child deserved to be murdered because I asked that question. Never again. I.stopped reaching out to moms of ASD kids and ASD kids in general because the parents are so nasty. The moms of ASD kids have turned me into that asshole that removes my kids when they come around. I wasn't always that way. They have a special brand of turning people off to them and their kids.

I agree. They can only talk to other moms who have the same kind of child. If someone asks a genuine sincere question it's not allowed.

I was going to post your #1 but I didnt want to be accused of being an ignorant bigot who hates autistic kids so I refrained. ASD moms are assholes sometimes.

Quoting Anonymous:

I have learned that it's not ok to ask an autism mom a polite question about her child, ever. You will be told you are an autism basher regardless of what the question is.

I didn't know that so many moms choose not to breastfeed for non medical reasons.

I never knew that so many parents are afraid to let their child play in their own backyard.

Wow. Just wow. That is so awful. I dotn even understand their thought process. Trying to sympathize and help was your goal yet they take it as if it's a horrible idea.

I'd do the same thing. I don't like to be around hateful people and certainly don't want my child around them. (not the child, the parent)

Mostly, I've learned teenage slang, which is ironic since I have 2 teenagers.  When I say something I've learned here, like "fugly" to them, they both look so disgusted and say "please don't ever say that again."  It's hilarious.
