Before cafemom... I never knew...

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post
That moms had such strong opinions on formula feeding vs. Breast feeding. In real life people act like they don't much care, here its like world war 3 anytime the topic is brought up.

That circumcision was cause for debate. Honestly, I just didn't think it was a big deal until I saw the battle royales going on on cafemom.

What ERFing was. I had my first son 7.5 yrs ago. I turned him forward facing at the minimum for the state regs. Not long after I joined cafemom I saw debates galore about ERFing. It just wasn't something I ever would have heard of had it not been for cafemom.

That PA made so many people mad. I never realized how many people hate PA, or think all people on PA are fat, lazy slobs who don't parent.. Etc.

How much crap they put in the food you buy at the store. Or in your detergents.. Not saying I'm blind to these things, I just never would have had reason to question any of it.

That people breast feed to five or six... I never would have guessed.

That cloth diapering was so popular.

That people argued about homeschooling vs public schooling. :/

What have you learned since joining? What arguments on here have surprised you? I know I now ERF my kids. Not to the extreme that some ladies do, but until 2. And my kids are in five point harnessess until 65lbs. I'll also be trying to breast feed this baby (tried the last two times with no success), but I'm going to try harder this time.

The number of moms who co-sleep, even after all the numerous deaths over the past 5 yrs or so, of infants and young children who were smoothered to death by a sleeping parent....yet so many still advocate that this is a safe practice.  Personally I was more afraid of the possiblity of accidently killing my chlid, I NEVER co-slept.

Seriously, you just cannot make that shiznit up! If women had to have a complete understanding of their reproductive system before getting pregnant, the human race would be doomed...

Bahahaha! What?! o.O

I learned that there are a lot of women that have no clue how they got pregnant. I think I died a little inside when I saw someone ask what their period had to do with pregnancy...

I have also learned that a lot of women have opinions about topics that they blatantly lack knowledge about, one case in point can be seen below...

I don't know how you can say I have no knowledge of this topic, as a 1st responder, I couldn't tell you the number of times I have been called out in the middle of the night to preform CPR on an infant who was smothered by a sleeping parent.   I'd say that gives me plenty of knowledge of the dangers of  co sleeping.

And every single one of those cases occurred when a parent was following all of the safe co-sleeping guidelines?

Ignorant comment. Co sleeping is sleeping in the same room... Bed sharing is sharing a bed. And ONLY if you are breastfeeding is bed sharing safe. The active instincts of a breastfeeding mother makes bed sharing safe.  Also, there's many rules such as no pillows, no drinking/prescription use, no obesity , no grandparents, etc. Bedsharing actually reduces SIDS if done correctly.

That there are lot of foul-mouthed people on Cafemom.  Love some of the debate, but can't stand it when people post using such bad language and less than well-thought out arguments.
