I don't believe in parenting through teaching that "2 wrongs make a right".

How can you conclude that the mother will not be "teaching insight or changing cognitions" from one picture? Her point was to open up the realm of HOW it feels to be publically humiliated and laughed at. Afterwards, she very we'll could have sat him down and discussed HOW it made him feel to stand outside and do that. Then, that opens the lines for communication and it goes from there. Many children DO need to feel what it's like to have something done to them, that they are doing to other people. Then, as a parent, you use that experience as the opening door to conversation about the action
Quoting Kris_PBG:
No - she doesn't. You don't stop a bully by having a bigger bully bullying him.
I think it is great she took his actions seriously, but I think her actions are misguided. It is like the scared straight programs.... Initial shock provides a change in behavior, but without teaching insight, changing cognitions, etc.... The behavior change is very temporary.
