1) If you have bipolar disorder, are you on a mood stablizer? How common is it to be on one? What does it do exactly?
2) Is there a bipolar support group on here?

1) Im on an anti convulsant which acts as a mood stabalizer. It is important to be on something to keep you even when you have bipolar. It is most common to take lithium or an anti convulsant.
That being said there are different types of bipolar, I can only speak for type 1, I dont know much about the other types.
There are theories about how meds work to help people with bipolar, but the truth is, doctors do not know what causes bipolar and how the drugs help. A skilled psychiatrist is needed to needed to prescribe the right cocktail for you. Yes, cocktail. Often more than one type of drug is needed.
2) there is but I find them slow and basically useless. If you go to crazyboards.org, there is a live chatroom and forum boards. You can find a lot of help there. The people there have gotten me through some really tough times
If there is a group pls let me know
2) I haven't searched for one
May I ask why you aren't medicated right now?
Quoting MrsMedina90:
1) No I'm not medicated right now. Every case is different but doctors recommend medication for my type. The medications they give you are supposed to keep your mood stabilized.
2) I haven't searched for one
It is very common to be on a mood stabilizer if you have it.
I'm sure there is, bump for you - maybe someone has more information for you.
1) I am not currently but have been in the past. Lamictal. I imagine it's not uncommon to be prescribed one. It balances out the chemicals in your brain that change your moods (I think).
2) I don't know; I haven't looked.
