Whaa!! Spoiled brat! Edit for clarification.

My friend bought her 16 year old daughter a brand new car. Her dd had a fit because it didn't have a sunroof. Mom brought it into some shop and got a sunroof installed. I'd have brought it back to the dealer and taken the loss. You know any entitled little ladies or gentlemen? Please share.

Edit:  Some of you thought that I was looking down on for her getting a brand new car.  I don't think the fact that she got a new car made her entitled.  I think the fact that she was so ungrateful that she threw a fit because it didn't have a sunroof made her an entitled brat.  What happened to just being grateful that you were given something that the person thought you would really like, whether or not it was exactly what you wanted?

New vehicles are common. Having a tantrum because it wasn't exactly how you wanted it isn't - or shouldn't be.

Quoting CreziaMommyTo2:

its common where i am from...

i got a new car when i was 16.  i got a toyota corolla.. granted nothing special, but at the time it was a new 1990 Corolla  my friend got a new BMW, and a different friend got a porche.

a very close family friend got a Ferrari when he turned 16.

i think i know a handfull of people who got a used car for their 16th birthday or had to pay for their own car...

i dont think its entitlement, i think it is what it is.. and maybe in your circle of friends it is not the norm, but for me, it was.  yes my friend who got the porche didnt like the BMW her parent bought for her.

yes all new vehicles.  not used, not pre-owned.  than again, this was 22+ years ago when cars were much cheaper

Absolutely! My dh says the same thing. When our kids can drive he said we will get them a cheap used car and see how well they take care of it for a while before even considering getting them a newer one.

My first car (that I owned on my own) was a 93 Toyota Corolla, and I paid for it in full myself :)

I think personally that you should never buy a new driver a brand new car of any kind. My friend got a brand new car where she got her license when we where in high school and not long after swerved to miss a dog and hit a wooden log fence and broke the front axle and dropped the engine.

I love the stroller idea. That would be funny.

Quoting VannaMae307:

I would have taken it back and gotten her a broken unicycle. Then told her to enjoy the view, it's even better than a sunroof.

Either that or gotten her an umbrella stroller and told her to sit in it since she was acting like a spoiled baby.

ahh your jealousy is showing. you have to correct my grammar now ... don't hate on me, I didn't ask my parents to raise me this way I was born into this luxury

but since you did ask, I do have an education and I do have a pretty good job. I also have an amazing husband who has a good career - he has also benefited from my giving parents. I have 2 beautiful children that my parents adore

Quoting Bird16_J:

Yikes I see they didn't pay for an education! It's not boughten it's: I have never bought my own car. Did you fail out of grade school? Sheesh your English is atrocious!

I work in a high school cafeteria. I had a girl get mad at me because no one told her the day before that her account was low and she would need to put money on her account in order to afford lunch the next day. I told her its not my responsibility to keep  track of your money. (she's a senior)

Yep that's a BRAT. I was given grandmas 1989 Corsica when I was 16 (1996) and I was THRILLED!! Id have never specified what my vehicle should have had. Getting the old car was generous enough.

lol I'm jealous because you're being babied by your parents? Yeah I don't think so sweetheart. And actually my has has an amazing job in the Air Force right now. He's getting closer to retirement and actually has people begging him to come work for them. He'll start out at 6 figures so I don't have to worry about that. He already gives me everything I need and once my children are a bit older I plan on going back to school myself. So no definitely not jealous of someone who has to have mommy and daddy pay for everything for me. And yes I corrected your grammar because obviously the education your parent's paid for didn't stick with you. And for me personally it's a pet peeve when people say boughten. That makes you sound like an uneducated fool! Glad I'm teaching my children to stand on their own two feet and my husband and I were taught to work for everything you have and not to expect hand outs!

Must be nice. I was extatic with the $800 pos I got at almost 17. Parents were sick of having to pick me up from after school activities. I was damned grateful. My parents would have sold the car if I pulled shit like that.

No way would that kid be getting a car of any kind from me after that display of ungratefulness. I would have snatched the keys back and taken it back to the dealership right then. Unbelievable!
