I don't see the problem with it if you're already terminally ill. Why prolong the suffering?

This. We have enough sense not to allow our beloved pets suffer, why wouldn't we have the same compassion for other humans?

Quoting EvilAsh:

I believe it should be. At least, for like terminally ill patients and whatnot. Why make them suffer? It just seems so inhumane to me.

 Great point!

Quoting Isaacsmom913:

Here is the irony-the states have the right to end the lives of inmates who have been convicted by a jury of their peers.  Yet a terminal person who wishes to end their life willingly runs the risk of condeming someone who has compassion for them to a life behind bars.  Go figure.

Exactly!

Funny this topic popped up because I literally just started writing a paper for school on this subject; physician assisted suicide.

Yes. But if I was sick I wouldn't need anyone to assist me. Dh and I have talked about this and if for example I had brain cancer or something I'd just od. Nothing wrong with meeting death on your own terms. My mom has always said if she was really sick to Kavorkian her. So I know what her wishes are. Jmot.
