My work will not let me come back...

I have had influenza type A for 5 days now. I normally work Monday through Thursday and I took yesterday off since I had a fever of 103 and was pretty sick, my 14 month old has it too but is much better now. So a girl from my work called and said that they don't want me to come in all week. I said I totally understand if I'm still sick all week I won't. I told her if my fever breaks Tuesday morning then I can come in Thursday. Btw she isn't a manager she is actually a friend that I got the job for and we are an office of 3. Anyway so she said ok. Then she called back and I just let it go to vm. She left message saying that Dr ( We are a root canal specialist) said that even if it breaks Tuesday that he doesn't want me in on Thursday he wants me to wait 48 hours. I know this is all coming from her and she convinces him. I told her my kids school now has a 48 hour rule last week and then all the sudden after working there 4 years my work now has it lol what a coincidence. Anyway I took my temp at 5 am with no meds and its 99.2 which is not a fever so 48 hours would be Thursday morning. However I know she will just fight with me, she loves to tell people what to do. However loosing a whole week of pay and being a single mom of two is so stressful. I understand them not wanting to get sick but if I stay 99 or lower I won't be contagious come Thursday. Also this cannot just apply to me so I was going to call her and just say ok and kindly point out that Thursday morning is 48 hours and that since I'm not being allowed to come in Thursday then its 72 hours and just to make sure since I'm not there to do it to write it in the employee manual a new policy for all employees, that they cannot return to work until 72 hours after their fevers break. I'm just stressed and irritated. What would you do? Btw Dr doesn't like to be bothered with anything so if I call him he will just be annoyed. ;(

It's very possible the Dr himself feels this way, as bad as the flu outbreak is I would be doing the same thing if I was him ... but if you have doubts call the dr directly.. Who cares if he doesn't like to be annoyed? He has employees to answer to, it's part of his job!

Call him yourself. But, I know I place I used to work for would automatically take you off schedule for a week if you had the flu. They were just trying to protect the clients against getting ill.

I agree it is but he can be really mean. Trust me it didn't come from him. I had mono and strep before and fever and as soon as I felt fine he told me to come back and the girl that I work with got pneumonia and he let her right back. Last week I told her about the 48 hour thing and now he's doing it. And she runs to him a,lot and tells him what he should do and he does. We have had 3 employees quit because of her and he pointed that out but all that doesn't matter I'm just frustrated.

Only the flu or a fever in general?

I can't blame them for not wanting you to come it. She's probably telling the truth.

My boss wouldn't let me come back to work the whole week when I had strep. I got sent home on a Monday and couldn't return til the following Monday even though I was better by Thursday. It was a small office too. I only went to work that Monday to catch by boss before court to tell him i wasnt feeling well and had a drs appt..
Small offices are like that, if one person gets sick there's risk for everyone to get sick
