Men and baby girls.

DH and I have two girls. When we visit MIL, DH can't change their diapers because my MIL thinks it's disgusting for a man to change a girl's diaper.

Obviously, when we're home, he changes diapers and has no issues; he knows its just part of being a dad. He thinks his mother is dumb for this and his response is, "Those are my DAUGHTERS. What's the issue?". I also think part of the issue is gender roles...changing a diaper is a woman's job.

Opinions?

***ETA: Don't worry, we're rarely around her. It's reasons like this (among others) that we limit our childrens' time with her, because overall, she doesn't respect our choices as parents. I was just wondering if my MIL was the only insane one, lol

BTW, I'm probably your MIL's age, or close to it. I voted YES. My dh changed our dd's diapers. Her brothers changed her diapers (they are 8, 10, and 15 years older)....now THAT may be the question to ask your MIL. She would faint dead away!

We don't have girls. My husband has changed our niece's diapers when we watched them. My sister and I both knew that my husband wasn't sexually attracted to kids.

That is so awesome that ur dh has no problem changing his daughters diapers. My dh will be changing baby girl's diaper forsure. Why shouldnt he? He is just a responsible for her well being. He jokes and says he wont but he will. He says "ok i'll change her diaper but i draw the line at breastfeeding" lol

My dh always felt weird changing dd's diaper and when she potty trained he felt weird to wipe her butt. He did it cuz he had to.

I changed most of the diapers because I know DH felt a little weird about it. Not because she is our DD, but because he had NEVER changed a diaper before her and it was just a little hard for his boy brain to process, hahaha!!

He was completely capable though, but instead I took diaper duty 99% of the time and he took the late night hallway walking 99% of the time.

Did you ask her why she feels this way? Does she have some explaination? Because I'd love to hear it....sorry if I missed a previous response.

My MIL changes DD's diapers as well but I'm not sure if it's for that reason or not. But that's crazy! of course men should change diapers!
