would you be offended or am i over reacting? *edit*

Posted by   + Show Post

just got off the phone with dh's cousin. apparently they dont like coming over here in the winter (or rainy weather) because we do not allow smoking in the house. I do not want my house to smell like an ashtray but it sucks that family wont come over for a better chunk of the year because of it. I have been tempted to say f--k it, let them smoke in here but then i remember what my mothers house always looked and smelled like from smokers. and i am actually upset that that is the reason why they dont come over here. would you be offended too or am i getting upset for no reason?

you all are replying faster than i can read LOL ok to answer a few questions:

1. we  do go over there and deal with the smoke smell and the wall of smoke that you literally walk into, i can tolerate it for a few hours before i get sick

2. would you want your kids around that much smoke (for those who are saying so go over there)

3. i am offended and upset that they cant be bothered to visit, yes they are respecting boundries but i think they are going about it in the wrong way.

Poor smoking babies. If they can't go without a cigarette for a few hours they're addiction is worse than they think it is. Maybe they should just quit, it'll be better for everyone. They will be healthier and you won't feel offended because they don't want to visit.

And Don't feel bad I don't slow smoking working 20ft of the doors to our house.

This exactly!!! I don't understand the issue.

You're getting upset over nothing.  You don't want smoke.  They don't want to come. What is there to be offended about?

What is with everyone getting butthurt over boundaries?

I think you are over reacting, but I also think you should stand your ground. No reason to let them smoke *just* so they will come over.

my feelings would be hurt if my family wouldn't come see me certain times of the year because they would have to smoke outside when its kinda cold.

I wouldn't be offended but I wouldn't allow them to smoke in my home. It is disgusting and dangerous. It is my home and that is the end of the discussion. I have family that will not come to my home because I do not allow smoking on the PROPERTY. Yep they have to leave completely. Go for a walk. This is my home.

I smoke and there is no way in hell anyone will be smoking in my house! If they don't like it they are more then welcome to stay home...

It was -10 and I still smoked outside...

1 mom liked this

I wouldn't be offended because my house would smell delicious and they have to stay in their smoke-filled, tarred-ceiling, home if they wanted to smoke. It's actually not a problem at my house because people can smoke in the garage but oh, hell-to-the-no-way would anyone be smoking in my house ever.

NO way anyone smokes in my house, including my MIL.  Everyone completely respects the rule.  You'e not overreacting.

That's the thing.  They ARE respecting them.  They're simply setting their own boundary.

Makes me wonder if the OP is simply trying to control these people and upset because they won't play into it.

That's what jackets and umbrellas are for. If they want to see ya'll bad enough, they'll get over it. I'm a smoker btw but I still say do NOT allow them to smoke in your house. I don't even smoke in my own house.

Especially in a house with children.

Your house , your rules , I am a smoker , I wouldn't even think of smoking in a house of non smokers
