Wtf is wrong with my hair??

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

I don't know if you can tell from the pic but it's very coarse. It has like...indentions running down the hairs. It's never been dyed or straightened, not been curled or blow dried in 10+ years.

What's wrong and how do I fix it??

Quoting NBean311:

Do you live in cold dry weather? Have you been ill recently? Do you eat a lot of protien or changed your intake recently?

All of those things could effect your hair.

It makes your hair smoother and sleeker. You can either go get it done at a salon or go to Sally's beauty supply, they have a nice line of it there.

Quoting Anonymous:

What is that and where do I get it?

Quoting Anonymous:

Get a keratin treatment for your hair.

Mine was like that when I was ill for an extended length of time due to the hormone imbalance and protein deficiency. It was sticky oil too, like I had smeared glue stick all over my scalp! I feel your pain. :(

Everything in your body affects your hair.

What is it, where do I get it and how do I use it? I know nothing about hair and beauty. My mom died when I was 9 and my dad raised me. He still has a mullet, sooo...lol.

How do I learn how to treat my hair?

Quoting Anonymous:

If it has always been like that, then it is most likely just the texture you have inherited. We all have different textures. Fine and straight, up to course, kinky etc. Since your hair has wave to it, it is typically more coarse. You need to learn how to treat wavy and/ or course hair type.

I would start with some Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. It does miracles.

Have you tried hot oil treatments? Some women swear by them.. even warmed up olive oil.

Is the coarse part of the hair all the way up and down, or is it near shoulders/mid back?  Sometimes with longer hair it can get messed up by the backs of chairs.

Quoting Anonymous:

If I wear it up, I just do a loose ponytail to keep it out of my face. It's about at the middle of my back. I live in Tennessee so pretty mild all the time. No more sun than normal.

I will try that tomorrow, thank you!!

Quoting Mrs.Kubalabuku:

Do you wear your hair up, use clips, bobby pins or anything?  It could be crimping if those things are too tight.

What is the environment like?  Hot or cold?  Are you getting more sun than normal?

It is also possible it is just changing some with age.

Another trick to use, but it will take time:
Make the water hot while the conditioner is in your hair.  This opens the follicle and allows the conditioning agents to seep deep in.  Then, use cooler water to rinse the conditioners out.  This closes the follicle, locking conditioning agents in, and helping the hair to remain smooth.

Quoting Anonymous:

White.

Wavy but mostly straight.

Every 3 days or so--gets dry otherwise.

Soft water.

I use a conditioner and a leave-in.

I let it air dry and comb it with a big comb, I only use a brush to gather it if I have to put it up (once a week).

Quoting Mrs.Kubalabuku:

Ethnicity?
Straight or Curly?
How often do you wash it?
Hard or soft water?
Do you use conditioners?
How do you dry it and comb it?

There's this shampoo I get at Sally's called ion hair repair. My hair was really corse and dry and after a month of using it my hair is so much softer and healthier.

Quoting Anonymous:

About 4x a year, it grows so slowly. I use John Frieda. It's like cracked or something all the way down. At least half of it is like this. I went to a hairdresser on Sunday who said I needed to stop using heat on it. I haven't done that in years :-(.

Quoting Anonymous:

How often do you get it trimmed, and what shampoo and conditioner are you using? It looks like major splitting?
