While I am sympathetic to those with a real illness, I find it a bit funny how many obese people claim they're fat due to a medical condition. I'm not originally from this country and I've never seen an obese person in my life until I moved here.

It insane and true. I knen I was heavy (175 before I had kids) I felt horrible, I had problems breathing, standing, and even getting light headed. Guess what after I dropped down to 145 I felt amazing, had no more health problems. Now I am back at 175, (4 months after having dd) and working my a$$ off to drop the weight, because I already am feeling horrible. To make sure it comes off I am doing Insanity and so far I am feeling much better! Change the way you eat (small things first) then get off you butt and move around more. If you cant walk through a store without help, because your over weight GET F$&#ING HELP! Plain and simple.

Our doctor told my mother in law he woudln't prescribe her a scooter for daily function... because he didn't want her to gain weight in it.

I agree to some extent. Im morbidly obese and getting an icd (pacemaker) put in next month.

You can't tell from the outside thats my main malfunction. .. but its what made me blow up :(

I was at walmart today wadding for spinach and three 500lb+ people rode by on scooters. Mom dad and son. Mom was maybe 40 dad noy much older. The kid was MAYBE 16... and an elderly woman going snail slow with a walker. .. WALKING!

If I can do it (albiet at half that weight) while waiting for heart surgery im sure they can too.

What annoys me is people with your attitude.

They do NOT consider weight a disability at social security. Not every disability is obvious, you never kniw what scars someone has under their clothes.

Agreed. I hate the fat people who use the motorized scooters at Walmart. Gee, wonder why you are that fat if you even refuse to do the basic movements involved in day to day life.

And before you all get on me, there is no way ALL of them have some debilitating illness or a condition that makes then fat. A great many of them got fat by being lazy and most fat peoples illnesses come from living so unhealthy.

I love her to death but my mil is a perfect friggin' example. While she was in an accident several years ago that injured ONE knee, she got fat and lazy. At the time of the accident she weighed 150 and is 5'6". Over the years she got more and more lazy saying she couldn't walk on it, that it hurt too much. She wouldn't exercise anymore and would just come home from her office job and park it in front of the tv all night. Not even getting up to let her dogs out and they go potty on newspapers that will sit there a few days. And she won't cook anymore, just hits a drive thru on the way home. She bitches about it all the time. She weighs 280 now! And only 5'6"! Now both her knees are so bad she needs replacements, but the doc said she had to lose weight. Now I just had a baby the day after Christmas. I'm a healthy person for the most part. I'm still looking to lose about 8 lbs to get back to regular. But during pregnancy I asked her to go we to the park for the walking trails, or water yoga, which is no impact at all. Well, she refuses. If we go anywhere, she has a handicapped sticker, rides the scooters, and gets exhausted after RIDING a scooter for a short time! I have zero sympathy. She's become lazy and blames it on a disability. Bitch, you ain't disabled! You had an injury that YOU use as an excuse to be fat.

I agree, even though I have struggled with my weight all of my life.  When I went to disney I was disgusted with the obese young ones in automatic wheel chairs.  If I can walk my fat ass around disney, so can you. I have also managed to work for over 30 yrs as well.

My mom can barely walk, but she doesn't use the scooters at the stores. She'd rather die than do that. If she's having a bad day, she'll send my brother or dad. If she's having a good day, she'll walk the store with her cane. It just takes forever.

actually they DO consider some extreme weight issues a disability at SS.  It is clearly on the site that lists disabilities.  Go and look.
