Is it wrong for kids to say Yes Sir and Yes Ma'm to teachers?

My son (8) said his teacher told him not to say that to her, that it's disrespectful! He said his dad told him it's good manners when speaking to an adult, and she told him not to do it at school then....

Good manners are ALWAYS appropriate!

Teachers now days are freakin idiots. Not all but most.Yes, I can say this because most of my family are teachers. I have had teachers tell my kids not to call them Ma'am. Hello, its a matter of respect for your elders. Its stupid for people to think its offensive. My kids say it, they would get in trouble if they didn't.

I don't see how anyone could view it as disrespectful. How odd. I could see maybe feeling it was a bit to formal, but not disrespectful.

I'm from the north, the midwest, and if you didn't have gray hair, you weren't called ma'am.
