Giving away money ? WWYD?

I'm getting a settlement soon, it's a large amont of money. I'm getting it due to an accident I was in, well my mom asked me to buy her a car. I told her I'd loan her the money but wouldn't just buy her a car, she's mad about it.

Just want to give some background on our relationship , I moved out of her house at 14 and moved in with my dh , she has helped me a little bit when I need it but never more the $10 at a time. She is my mother and I want to help her but I don't want to just give away money that I can use for my children.

What would you do?

depends, if you cant afford to do it then dont.

not sure how much you are getting but a large sum (according to CM) could be anywhere from $100-$100,000

i wouldn't give her or laon her money. not with family or friends. it never ends well.

No way would I even be lending her the money.  If she can't afford the car herself, well, she doesn't need it.  Maybe she could buy something she could afford ... how is she going to pay for insurance, gas and upkeep yet???

If you can't afford/don't want to give it as a gift, then don't do it.  Just because it's a loan does not mean she will pay it back.
