Creating a new group; advice needed

I'm interested in creating a new group. While I understand the mechanics of creating a group, what I'm not sure about is how to recruit members without getting in trouble. Most groups have a no advertising, recruiting policy. Any suggestions? The group is a pretty specialized group, for horse riders/lovers. Thanks for any advice!

There are already several groups for horse lovers/riders on cafemom. Why don't you join an existing group?

You send chatterboxes and place them on their profiles, or send them PMs promoting your group. You can also go to the Cafemom Resource Group and promo your group as much as you want there.

If we all took the attitude "there's already groups like that" I wouldn't have my own group. There are plenty of siggy groups. I wanted my own :)
