Bedtime... Bad mommy night...

My LO has ALWAYS been a bad sleeper from day 1 and we tried Ever method we could... Nothing worked. At 2 our Dr. recommended low dose of melatonin to help slow him down to sleep (he is very high energy and bedtimes routinely lasted over 2 hours).
He did great on melatonin and would fall asleep in 30 minutes. We still had night wakings but those improved. After 6 months we decided to try a certified sleep consultant and have another go at sleep training without melatonin. It failed miserably. Would still have 1-2+ hour bedtime processes and he started hating his bed... But, once asleep he rarely woke until 5am. But the nighttime process was killing me... A month with no progress and our consultant is now referring us to a sleep specialist (a doctor) for more help...

So we are still working our consultants program while we wait... But tonight after an hour of him (literally) bouncing off the walls I caved... I gave him a half dose of melatonin... He slowed down within 15 minutes and asleep in 20.

I feel awful and like I am failing because after all this time I still can't get my son to go to bed "like a regular kid".

Some times you gotta do what you gotta do momma. If you felt like he needed it don't feel bad. I have a friend that her daughter is like that and even with the melatonin is up till 2-3am and up by 7.
