After only 3 years ( well it started right after marriage ) not abusive just mean , unloving .. does it get better ?

The ex was and no matter how hard I tried, it didn't get better. Maybe try counseling.

I was horrible to dh when we first starting dating, I mean royal bitch. Lucky for me he loved me and stuck it out. Eventually after dating for a few years and realizing we both wanted forever he brought it to my attention. I didn't even realize how horrible i was being until he said something. Once I realized it, I made an effort to be better and 10 years later, we've never been happier.

While we didn't need it, therapy may help you two.
