Do you know the difference between aloud and allowed?

Everyday I see multiple comments using the word aloud where it should be allowed. So I'm curious, do you know the difference? Does the wrong use bug you? Do you use aloud in place of allowed?

allowed - you can do something. 

aloud - oh my! I can't tell you off the top of my head but yes I do know the differences.
