One if my dogs has epilepsy. She is a beagle and just turned 3. I love her she is like one if my children. She had a cluster of grand mal seizures yesterday. The vet said at this point our only options are put her down or give her meds. Usually that would be a no brainer but these meds will shut down her organs and cause her to die within a year or two. I just dont know what to do. I dont want to kill my baby but i don't want to be the cause of her suffering and dying slowly either. This sucks.

does she have the seizures frequently, like a daily basis type thing?  What about pain meds to manage the pain?

I am so sorry! Your poor pooch. If it were me (I love animals like they are my kids) I would give her the meds and when things got bad for her I would put her down.

Its not every day but they last up to 10mins with her going in and out with 30sec intervals. She has no control and gets sick for a while after she has them.

btw, my FIL says that you should research online about natural remedies for seizures.  At this point with the options the vet gave you.. what do you have to lose right?  He said he that you can buy customized vitamin and mineral supplements for your dog, and that there are herbs that are used to help with these issues.  He said to research skullcap, oat-straw, and valerian.

Me, I would want to exsaust option before considering the options that your vet gave you.

Thank you so much i will look into those now. I also have an appt with a specialist for her to get a second opinion. As for your other response she is a happy playful pup with no other issues.

If I were in your shoes, I'd put her to sleep. Why have her suffer through her organs shutting down?
