A friend that I have on Facebook is 18. Her and her husband just had their first baby. They go out to the bar every other night. Her husband is not employed. They constantly pawn their son off on family or friends, just so they can sit home and do nothing. She just posted that picture on her page not that long ago...

Like really? You do not have the right to claim that title. I, on the other hand, do. My son is 7 months, almost 8 months, old. I have not been away from him for more than 5 minutes of his life. I don't pawn him off on people. I don't go out drinking every other night. I do almost everything myself. My SO (his father) pays for his diapers, wipes, etc.

Who says she shouldn't? You? Oh holy one?

Quoting ShanesMommy2012:

No but she shouldnt do it every other day.

Being a mother doesn't mean you can't go out and have a drink or go to bars.

Quoting Bero2007:

Why is she going out to a bar if she's 18 let alone a mother?

I'm in Alberta Canada. Most provinces are 18 or 19.

Quoting Lizardannie1966:

Different country?

Or do I really need to get my head out of the sand and realize that 21 is not the required legal age everywhere in the US?

Quoting TSNDDY:

18s the legal drinking age here... She might be somewhere like that?

Quoting Lizardannie1966:

Fake IDs still floating around out there, huh? 18 and can get into a bar?

While they go to the bar a little too much, IMO, that doesn't really mean she's a bad Mom.

Stop making the comparisons.

I'm a bitch yet you're pissed off because your "acquaintance" gets to go out and you don't. Sit down bitch you have a lot to learn. :).

Well, parents deserve a break too. I never think I'm any better than anyone else because I don't get time away from my kids. I chose to be a mother. I knew we have no family that would take the kids EVER. My mother in law took them once and my youngest is soon to be 3 years.

My question...how is she going to the bar and whatnot when she's a teenager?

Sadly, your age is showing. Your Friend has growing up to do, as do you. Good luck with all of this.

Well, I would agree that she doesn't have the right to claim it if she's out at a bar (at 18!) every other night. I do hope that you don't feel guilty about going out yourself (even if date night is a long walk around the neighborhood) once in a while. That being said when I had my first dd (she's 8 now) I didn't let her go till I went to the hospital to have number 2 (about to turn 7.) You can have a fulfilling personal life and spend the vast majority of your time with your kids. I think I've gone to a bar twice in my entire life. Both bc of birthdays and my SO watched the kids. If we go some where and one of us wants to have a few drinks (bc we do not get drunk around our kids) then the other one is the DD.
