Would you allow your 6 year old to participate in MMA?

For me it depends on the 6-year-old. My son is only 3 so I can't determine whether or not I would allow him to be in MMA. His dad is an MMA fighter and coach so I probably would allow it considering his dad is heavily involved and educated in this area. The only part I would be concerned with is the boxing aspect. Getting hit in the head and face at such a young age just doesn't seem ok to me. I think I would prefer karate or some other martial art that is less violent. I also take into consideration that football is just as dangerous but many refuse to admit it.

Your thoughts?

It teaches good discipline. Would love to get my son into something like that.

at 6, no way. martial arts, yes. MMA no.  i'm not a fan of football either, but if he wants to play in high school, then i'll let him.

It would teach good discipline and would help dd burn some excessive energy. She has A LOT of energy!

If it was what he wanted and I could find a good program that wasn't just about violence, but focused on the discipline and respect side as well, then yep. Sure would. My son is 2 and is already begging to be put in Karate since we live near a couple schools, but the won't accept students under 4. If he's still interested, I'll put him in it. Who knows what he'll decide he wants in two years though. Heck, last week he loved ice cream and now he won't touch it, so honestly who knows?
