how does the irs decide who to process?

This is what I dont understand. You would think it would be a first come, first serve situation, right?

Nope. People who filed in February already have dates and their refunds while people who filed in January are still processing.

Does anyone know what criteria the IRS is following? What makes some people so special?

I don't know. We filed on the 5th and are getting ours on Thursday. It went super fast.

They go by the last 4 digits of your SS number

I'm not so sure about that. My name is listed first and my last four start with 9.

Not sure, we filled ours Feb 2, and had ours back in 6 days ( Friday) and the site said it got sent today.....oh and we didn't direct deposit.

Lol right? I check 2x a day. After 3am and in the afternoon in case they updated late.

It depends on the types of deductions and credits you have. I filed mine on January 25 and the IRS won't even accept it until Thursday because of the education credit.
