My cousin lives with us and is in grade school. He just started living with us and going to this school in January. The parents are suppose to provide a snack for the kids once a month for the kids. Well why have me and DH provided snacks for the class 8 times in two months? We keep getting these letters from the teacher asking us to send snacks, why not get the other parents to send snacks. So this week I decided I am done and only send him a snack to make sure that he will have a snack, well he gets a letter home saying do not send a snack for him if I am not willing to provide a snack for everyone and they would prefer if I do not send him with funds to purcahse things from the school store either because it is not fair to the other children....

WTF?!?!?

Are private schools like this?

Kids cost money. I am sure you're not the only one providing snacks. Get over it.

If I have provided snacks 8 times in less then 30 days that means that someone sure isn't providing snacks. Kids cost money and I pay for mine so should the other parents.

When he started the letter we were provided said that the parents would provide snacks once a month with a schedule in alphabetical order. Okay fine, there are 28 kids in his class. However the first time we sent snacks we then got a letter asking us to send some the next week, the twice the week after that and so on.

And some schools dont require the parents of children on free or reduced lunch to provide snack for the class. I always send snacks for everyone anytime im asked. I am glad i am fortunate enough to do so to take the burden off of those who cant.

So why not act like a mature adult and ask the teacher why you are being asked to send snack so much.

Why do they have a school store if they don't want children purchasing anything? That's ridiculous. I'd also see why you are being chosen to provide snacks so often. I get that some families can't, but they should do away with this practice if only a handful of parents can provide.

Wait, you aren't allowed to send money for him to buy something from the school store? Is no one allowed to give their kids money for the school store, or just you? That makes no sense.

About the snack thing, why not just ask the teacher why you're being asked to provide snacks every week? Passive aggressive tactics are for 15 year old girls...

Everyone should provid snack for their own children. I have to provide my child with 2 snacks everyday & it works out just fine. I would be very upset if I had to provide snack 8 times in one month!
Our school did this thing where you donated a quarter every Friday & a snack was provided for fridays only. Maybe your school should do something like that. Make everyone chip in a little & make it once a week snack... I would suggest that if I were you!

I have asked the teacher and she says that each parent is assigned a date however all parents do not send so then they ask the parents who do send to "fill in the gaps"

It was not until after I addressed the issue with the teacher that I got the note about the school store. On Fridays, if he has had a good week I usually send him with a few bucks to make s purcahse at the little store they have open at the very beginning of the day.
