My 10 yr old has friends over and I ordered a couple pizzas from Papa Johns and one of his friends said "why don't you order from Papa Murphy's?  They take EBT cards now".  I had to explain to him that not only do we make too much money to have an EBT cards, I actually work for the agency that hands out the EBT cards.  So he says, "so you make more than a thousand dollars.  You must be rich."  No, not rich.  Just able to pay my bills and able to buy pizza once in a while.  I feel so bad for this kid.

I remember the first time I went sleep at my best friends house in high school. We went to the store and her mom paid with a check. I asked her why she didn't pay with food stamps and she gave me a strange look and explained that food stamps were income based and they weren't in a situation where they needed them. I was super embarrassed.

We'd had them all my life. I thought it was something everyone got.

I was that kid. My kids aren't and I plan to keep it that way.

Poor kid. He already knows the state of his parent's finances. :(

grandparents.  His parents are divorced.  His unemployed dad has full custody (mom abandoned) so they live with his grandparents.
