I live in a smallish town. we do have a animal control officer

i have a small 13 lb dog and my MIL has a small shihtzu. we have tie outs for the dogs to be leashed to when they have to go potty BUT every freakin single there are at least four dogs running around my street in front of my yard. most of the time its the same freakin dogs. a couple of times i had to use a snow shovel for protection just to put my kids on their bus. do you just let your dogs run loose if you dont have a fenced yard or do you have a tie out?

I have a six foot fence. I would never let my dog run loose. Too dangerous for them and drivers who May hitthem.

We've always had fenced yards... If we didn't then we would have a tie out while we built a fence. I don't think dogs should be tied out all the time (it's proven to lead to aggressive behaviour and dogs on tie outs are more likely to bite!), either build a fence or don't have a dog. If you live in and apartment then just walk the dog several times a day.

No one has a fence in my neighborhood, but ALL of the dogs are on runners.

The dogs are only out long enough to do their business unless it is really nice

We live in the country. My little dog doesn't leave the yard. And our husky will occasionally to go down to my neighbors and play with her dog but most of the time just lounges hopefully our new puppy will learn not to take off

I guess the same way you mean "tied up", its just a super long lead so he has the run of about 1/3 acre of our property.
