Only be given to people who truly need them. I would like to have help financially from time to time, but I am using coupons and am doing fairly well so far.

Drug addiction severe enough that it required rehab DID previously qualify as a temporary disability... it no longer does.

Now, the option for a non-functional addict (cannot hold a job, chronic homelessness, unemployable due to felonies) is to enter Congregate Care Level 2 which is the equivalent of a group home or halfway house... in New York State, they will be given $200 in food stamps for exactly 12 weeks and a monthly PNA (Personal Needs Allowance) of $165 in check form. After that period, they are required to actively seek work or participate in the standard welfare-to-work program for able-bodied adults (which is 40 hours a week at the social services dept. doing anything from scrubbing the toilets to sweeping/cleanig the building) for $365 per month. This is a maximum allowable 60 month program, after which one can never qualify again.

So, can't make a living at it forever ;)

I do, however, believe the program should be 12 months max for adults with no dependents... the idea behind the 60 month lifetime limit is that one could bear a child and 5 years later said child would be in school, therefore enabling the parent to return to work.

69 percent of recipients are children, elderly or disabled

The average household size of food stamp recipients are 2 persons

There goes your whole "7 kids" argument

there is no reason their parents can't feed them on their own.

Hey. Smart phones are more important than feeding your seven kids because birth control is too hard to figure out. Get with the program. lol ;) I agree, however, I cannot stand to think of a starving child in this country and you know the fuckers will let their kids starve rather than not buying the Iphone/flat screen/car etc... Sad, but so goddamn true.

Less than 6.7% of recipients are elderly. You should have kept reading your statistics. Every family I know of mooching off the system have more than two people in their household, they just lie through their disgusting unmarried teeth and CLAIM there is only two in the house, when the boyfriend is living there, too. I do not need a statistic for that one. And, if it is only two people, they cannot figure out how to pay for food? Weaklings are becoming majority in this country now. Don't even get me going on the disabled. Are we counting the fucking drug addicts on that, too? You know, get a good drug addiction and go on disability for life? It is the new way to make a living in this country.

Welfare will never be shut off as long as the government wanst to be involved in the lives of its citizens and we allow it. More than likely, what will happen and what is happening now is that we will become a full-fledged socialist government. Do not imply what I do not understand. I understand all of that, yet I also know that it isn't just because people are lazy, that they feel the need to look to the government to help them.

For every case you state there are many more valid claims.

"Valid".. Yes, 104% rise in food stamps is "valid". It will be "valid" when people run the system out of money and there will be help for no one. Of course, I do not expect some of you to be bright enough to figure that out. The money does not grow on trees. Every person who is having a rough go of it does not need to put their hand out. What ever happened to fending for yourselves? Oh yeah. That went out the door when people starting becoming lazy by the droves. We have more welfare recipients in my state than tax payers. That is valid. And it will destroy our state. I am looking forward to the day welfare gets shut off.

I don't think you should get food stamps to help feed your kids period.

And i am glad you opinion really doesn't matter to me. what you think really don't matter because the fact is that  they government seems to think i need them.

Not that I want to be called everything in the book.. But I have been on the system for 13 YEARS! NONSTOP! They say that 60 months is the limit..but it's not!

They apply send your landlord, utilities the money directly.. And only allow you access to the cash.above that.

I won't read anything that is replied to this..so don't bother

And how are you going to determine that they are truly needy? The govt has income stnadards in an attempt to determine who is needy but there will always be people who lie about their income or who don't get a job just so they can get assistance instead. How is the fs office supposed to know for sure which ones are lying and don't really need the help and which ones really do need it? It's a good idea, but....
