Quirks of your city/town.

What are the quirks where you live?

In my town parenting is very lax. Kids are left to express themselves. People don't care much for manners or etiquette. There are also more than the usual amounts of suicides here - teen and adult. It is very odd here.

i can't really think of anything.....i'm from mt. airy, nc originally.  that crazy town gets so excited to be the inspiration for the 'andy griffith show'.

i live in a small town about 30 minutes from there now & it's kind of rural and a bit red neck. everyone seems to have an obsession with camoflage clothing, car seat covers, baby hats, etc....There's even a huge camoflage recliner in the local furniture store!!

kids will get yelled at by cops for walking. mostly we call it WWNW (walking while not white), because while we don't have many races except white, if you're caught in the presence of say a black person, or an asian person, you'll get stopped and questioned.

and we have a few families who pay, out of pocket, for sports & the artistic departments. Our high school musicals cost a lot of money, and there are at least 4 familes who pay out of pocket, and a bunch more who do fundraising privately, just so the kids can have after school programs and have classes like band, art, chorus, and music theory. it's really sad. I am thinking of joining their little commity, but I have no free time right now =/

Everything is haunted. Ghosts are just an accepted thing.

My town and zip code actually spans two counties, so every time I do anything that requires a county name, the software puts the wrong one in.

There are schools that support several towns of children.  Most of the people  in my town send their children to private school though, which is why my town hasn't bothered to build public schools for themselves.

In seven years of living here, I have never seen a police care in my town.  We don't have town police, just county anyway.  We also have no crime.

We are too far away from commercial areas to have any delivered food.  No take out at all.

Every family in my small development of 63 homes has a maid and lawn service.

We live in a small town in upstate NY with a lot of mixed ethnicity's, so we have a lot of customs in our town that have come from a mixture of those nationalities. So people say that when they come to my town, its like going back in time or to another country. Children are considered a town thing, if you see a child who needs help, it is your responsibility to do something. We have sort of a "it takes a village to raise a child" kind of thing, which also means that if you see a kid doing something wrong, its expected that you tell them off for it. We are very traditional about manners and good manners are expected. We aren't as law crazy as others are, from what I've seen on here, if we have a problem with someone and can deal with it ourselves, we do deal with it ourselves and only call in the police when someones in danger and theres no other choice. We have some strange customs, like all children wear white to funerals because they are innocents. There are a lot of spiritual beliefs and custom, bottle trees are big.

I live where "young people come to retire." It is a strongly vegan/vegetarian city. We even have a "vegan" mall where you can get some shopping done, bakery items, and a vegan tattoo." Our motto is "keep _______weird" but I know this is the motto of at least one other city as well. "We" like tattoos and piercings A LOT in this city! You are the oddball (me) if you do not have a tattoo or extreme piercing. It rains quite a bit here, but the summers are amazing, and you can get to skiing in the mountains or the beach within in hour.

People call a water fountain a bubbler. An ATM is referred to as a tyme machine. LOL and we are famous for drinking lots of beer.
