Are You Selfish? I Am And Proud To Be - 3rd UC Baby ** Possible TMI Picture**

Posted by   + Show Post
**There is a picture of baby and I just after birth. Like JUST AFTER. Nothing is 'showing', but if you don't want to see it you might just click back.**

According to some (not just on CM, but IRL) I am selfish for the children I have, and the way they were birthed. It's ok though. I love them. I love the choices I made on how and where they were birthed. I would, and might, do it again. ;)

One person's selfish choice is another person's correct choice. If we want to be eeal about this, we are all selfish. We decide what is right because of what we think, feel, know, want, fear, believe, hope for, etc... We are always going to be viewed as selfish by somebody. Who cares!

My last baby was born at home. She was our 5th home birth. Her home birth may have been selfish to some. However, I'm sure that I would have NEVER been allowed to go just shy of 43 weeks if I birthed in the hospital. I would have had to force her out before she was ready. I would have had interventions that I did not want pushed on me. With the size she was, I might have also ended up with a cesarean because I would not have been able to birth her on my back. It would not have been possible to get her out that way. I know this for a fact. However, some see this as selfish on my part. :(

Just because it's not the choice many women would make doesn't mean it's wrong. It's just different. Everyone needs to make the choice they are most comfortable with.

For every selfish mother here... Those who birthed at home, in the hospital, in a birthing center, cesarean section, unassisted, midwife assisted, OB assisted, vaginal, natural, with pain medications... Post your baby pictures...

Show off your babies!!!

This is the fast story of my last birth. Let us see if the pictures pull up (I'm mobile and trying this mulitple uploading trick).

3 moms liked this
You selfish selfish woman birthing that baby in a calming loving environment without (possibly) harmful drugs and germs. I cannot believe the nerve of you allowing that baby to settle in and grow securely instead of coming on a conveniently scheduled date! I bet you even had the nerve to hold her after and didn't pass her off for all important measuring and scrubbing! Didn't you know that might result in a peaceful entrance into the world?!

Haha way to go mama! I'm a birth and pp doula and I love seeing healthy babies welcomed into a peaceful loving environment. I can't imagine anyone thinking pushing a 10+ lb baby out without pain meds is selfish but oh well. Anymore than I can imagine calling a mom willing to risk her life and lay through a surgery wide awake to get a healthy baby into the world is selfish. Any mom who makes an informed decision to birth her baby in whatever way is best fir the family is the prefect mom.

Oh and I gotta say... I'm floored that there was no cone head with a baby that big! Did you have a fast labor? Usually they end up more squished from time in the birth canal, especially when bigger and requiring more time.

I was told the same thing.. I birthed my biggest baby at home after 2 sections ;)

Quoting KristenFowles:

 Congrats!

I had 3 c-sections.. I was told my pelvic bone could not pass a baby larger than 2lbs.. I guess I'll never know..

EIGHT kiddos!?  I'm worn out with three.. Hello super woman.. haha

I would LOOOOOOVE to do a home birth!! And I want like 5 kids (I have 2, dh has 1 "adopted"). Don't know if I could do 8 kids, but I have no problem with people who do.

Beautiful Kids! I think women who can do homebirths are amazing. I'm not brave enough to do it without pain medicine, but I admire those who can.

I have no idea how Home Birth can really be called selfish. I thought this was going to be one of those "I electively got a C-section so I could choose my baby's birthday/avoid pain/embarrassment of childbirth" posts and was about click back because those kinds of posts annoy the pants off of me. But this is a great celebration of a mother who tried to do what she felt was best for her baby! I don't think you selfish at all. And your baby is beautiful.

I always wondered if it was true or just more convenient for my doctors.. However never pushed it because truth be told I was terrified of a vaginal birth and was relieved with the c-section news... Clearly I'm a bit odd.

My girls were sections and my son was a home birth baby ;).. I can't tell you how many times I heard derogatory comments about my choice to home birth after 2 sections.. It was amazing though and I will only home birth from now on! I absolutely loved our experience!
