DS (5) and i were having a discussion last night after he got out of the shower. i've been noticing him exploring himself a lot more lately so i asked him about it. he said he's been feeling things down there and whenever he sees a girl "it goes straight" only thing i could think of to do was give him a high five! lol DH works nights so i tried to handle it as i thought he would. i explained that there was nothing wrong with what he was feeling and that he was perfectly fine and if he wanted to explore to do it in the privacy in his room and not around other people. i called DH right after and shared our convo so i'm hoping when he's home this weekend he might be able to explain to him a little better what's going on.
I'm glad you let him know it's normal and nothing to be ashamed of.
I have 2 boys, ages 5 and 3. A few months ago we went through something very similar with the older boy. My youngest, however..kills me lol He was sitting on the couch in his underwear yesterday (he's at the end stages of potty training and was just wearing underwear and a tshirt). He pulled the waistband of his underwear open and peered down and said "oh no mommy, my penis is big! what do i do?"
My son is two and he cries when he gets hard. lol He usually has to pee and he hasn't figured out how to talk it down yet.
