Does your state tax sugar?

I just moved to Texas and was buying groceries. The first thing I rung up (self checkout) was my pepsi. I looked at the price and wasn't sure why it was more than listed. Anyway I asked a worker what the deal was and I guess anything with sugar is taxed? I moved from a state where no grocery store food was taxed (cold/not served, If you got a chicken order from deli they prob taxed it).

No. There is a tourist tax in some towns, but that's it.

Nope. We have a prepared food tax. Like you said a cooked chicken or any reasturant. Other then that anything you buy is the price it says. I live in new hampshire.
