Big Bang Theory... I am not a "Penny!"

Posted by   + Show Post

Since the Sitcom, Big Bang Theory, gained popularity.  The shear mention that my husband is a scientist typically leads to the "Penny" comparison.  Seriously, just because my husband is a physicist doesn't mean I am his proverbial "Penny."

The comparison is quite annoying and kinda insulting.

Any other scientist's wives out there experience "Penny" moments?

For awhile actually, but that was quite a bit ago...  Late 90's if I attempt the recollection.

Quoting Caitlin1983:

Cool! I worked there too. Did he live there long?

Quoting SoltaniMommy:

Nice, my husband has worked there... He is a nuclear physicist or solid state matter.  However, you prefer...

Quoting Caitlin1983:

Not a scientist's wife, but a scientist's daughter. I am from Los Alamos, NM...the only reason for the town is the Los Alamos National Lab (first atomic bomb). So lots of Amy Farrah Fowler's, not many Pennys.

What kind of a scientist is your husband?

She's also an advocate for extended breast feeding. :)

Quoting Blueliner:

She also wrote a book on "attachment" type parenting.

I doubt she ever had student loans lol.

Quoting Caitlin1983:

Wow. At least she can pay off her student loans now? Lol

I can't believe she has a PhD.

Quoting Blueliner:

"At the end ofBlossom, she chose to attend UCLA, although she also had been accepted to both Harvard and Yale.[5][6] She stated that she wanted to stay close to her parents and did not want to move to the East Coast. She earned a bachelor's degree in 2000 inneuroscienceHebrew and Jewish studies, and went on to the PhD program in neuroscience."

Quoting Caitlin1983:

Blossom is a neurobiologist?

Quoting Anonymous:

Are you a "Amy Farrah Fowler"? Or a "Bernadette"? Or Raj's sister?

Did you know the person that plays AFF is an actual neurobiologist in real life?

Ah, I worked for a contracter to the lab at that point, I was in High School in the late 90's.

Wonder if he remembers anyone from there? It's a small town.

It was a silly sitcom from the 90's about a teenage girl, her quirky best friend and her but dumb older brother.

Quoting Anonymous:

What's blossom?

Quoting Caitlin1983:

No, didn't she play the lead role on the show 'Blossom' years ago?

Quoting Anonymous:

If that's her name, then yes, yes she is.

Try it out one day.  Let me know what you think of it.  I find it super funny because it is quite reminiscent of my husband and his colleagues.

I have heard of the show and people seem to love it. Who is Penny and why are you compared to her?

Penny is a Blonde chick that lives across the hall from Sheldon and Leonard. theoretical and experimental physicists, respectively.

I am simply compared to her because my husband is a physicist.  Nothing more... Until they get to know me.  Then it changes, but still.
