Mom Confessions Mom Confessions

We bring home 5k a month and are still negative.

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

My husband brings home 5k a month and not only are we ALWAYS negative in the bank, half are bills don't get paid. Sadly we don't even have many. Rent, utilities, cell phones, and car insurance.

He thinks it's because I spend to much and I think it's because he spends to much.

I sure as hell am NOT going to cut down on spending if he doesn't. I deserve to get things I want too.

Quoting wkukid:

Actual pay doesn't help anyone. It's what you take home that matters.

It's only 60k a year. That's not much anymore.

Actually that is about 72-78K per year-take home is 60!

I know-you said 60K wasn't much_ iresponded that their pay was actually over 72K-hell if insurance is taken out of that their actual pay might be 80K or better. chicken feed right?  Because when you discuss income-it is always pre taxes.

That doesn't help her though. She has 60k to live on, in most areas that's not much anymore sadly.

Quoting twinmommy27:

Thats after taxes. He would make more if that is take home.

Quoting wkukid:

5*12= 60.

Quoting twinmommy27:

Is it only 60? I was thinking 80-90 since its take home.

Is that 5k after taxes? Dh brings close to 10 after taxes and we are still close to struggling. My confession is I never cook and I buy two meals a day. Do you guys cook? That's where all our money goes. Also to all our old debt.

She said 60k. I was going by what she said. 80k isn't much when 20k is taken out for taxes.

You're right, it's not.
Especially when you don't understand the concept of budgeting, and living within your means.

Print out your bank statements, highlight his spending and highlight your spending.  Add up the totals, give yourselves an allowance each per month.

I'm sure someone has suggested this but maybe you need to sit down with a financial advisor.
