Kind of pissed off

My husband was recently laid off. It's been 3 months, and he has yet to find a job that paid as much as used to be. So he decided to finish his masters, hoping that he can have a better chance. So he is working PT and working. I was already going to school full time ( before he was laid off ). But our insurance had ran out a month ago. I have PCOS and was on medications to keep my body from going wack-o again. So being off his insurance and unable to pay out of pocket, we were told to apply for medicaid since I have a " preexisting condition". So I did. Well I got approved of the medicaid. Here's the problem. I AM ALL FOR THEM MAKING PEOPLE VOLUNTEER AND COME IN AND SPEND SOME TIME LOOKING FOR JOBS!! I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT THATS WHAT THEY SHOULD DO WITH ANY ASSISTANCE!!. But, the problem is with school. They want us to go to their work force center and spend 38 hrs a week. Which would be do able if we had child care. So they said they offered child care, but that would be an additional 20 hrs a week we would have to put in! I swear its like they are wanting people to stay on the system. We are going to school to up our chances of getting better paying jobs so that we would not have to rely on gov assistance. If we did those hrs, DH would have to quit his part time job, and possibly school. Or I will have to let go of my health. I can't quit school, because I had already paid for it. This is ridiculous! All this because people don't give a shit about the economy and still want to export jobs overseas. I swear this system is meant to keep people on it. It doesn't make any sense. They should take into consideration of school. Here I am thinking the system was for helping people get a sturdy leg until they can get back on their feet. Not to tell people to quit what they are doing that could potentially help them in the long run so they can get a little bit of help. All we need in insurance.

Im just mainly pissed that they don't take school into consideration. That is ridiculous. It's not like we are sitting at home on our asses. We are working towards a better future where we wouldn't have to worry about assistance. We weren't planing on working to stay on assistance, we are working so that we can get some temporary assistance until we can get back on our feet. Im just going to say screw it. Im not quiting school, im not asking DH to quit school. Im just going to have to deal with my health problems and hope I don't have to have any ER D&C or ruptured cysts, that I can't pay for without insurance.

I have to agree with you. School should count 100% because you're doing what you need to do to better your life

here school does count you have to bring proof you are in school and everything but they do count it, however they didnt count pregnacy as a medical reason to not be there, even though PREGNANCY wasnt my reason, my reason was pregnancy related , i was on bed rest because i had a complete previa what job is even going to hire me with a previa ya know? so i was unable to get PA while I was on bed rest for 6 months with my son! Thank GoD for my parents!!!

It should. If anything should count it should be school. Because apparently a bachelors degree does not account for anything these days. Well at least in his field of work. It used to. He was going to go after his masters and already put in some hrs, but he got offered a job about 8 yrs ago. He thought that would be better. I guess back then bach degrees were great, but not anymore.

I call BS! Insurance companies can no longer deny you for pre existing conditions, its part of obamacare, and medicaid does not.require you to volunteer.

Wow! Thats crazy! Here pregnancy is still counts as a medical reason. My condition counts, thought I have to basically "work" for it.. which again im fine with that. But don't tell me I would have to quit school. I would be more than happy to put in volunteer work. I used to do that anyways. Just for the enjoyment of it. But I need to finish school. Im not far from finishing either. All that time and money spent is not going to be wasted.

Here, you don't have to do anything for Medicaid, only fs and cash assistance. Also schooling counts here.

What are you talking about? I was not denied care. And yes medicaid does request you to volunteer ( or put in some hrs at the work force center). It's called illegibility requirements. We also have to go to a 3 day workshop and I have to take a reading and math test. Which I think the lady said does not count towards the hrs that I have to report.

Here you do if you are an adult. My kids can still be eligible for Medicaid and anyone under the age of 19 and or pregnant can still be eligible with out volunteer work. They said they used to count school. And they also used to help pay family members of recipients for child care. They no longer do that. They offer gas/transportation assistance too, but the hrs would have been the same with out the gas assistance. So IDK if that requires volunteer work. I just can't do it. We came home and worked out the hrs and there is no way we could do that. 38 hrs with school and everything, we would certainly need child care. We don't have anyone who could watch our kids for free. We certainly cant afford to pay someone. And whats the point of getting assistance for child care when they are going to up the hrs to 20 more hrs. That would be impossible unless we quit everything else. Then whats the point of that? We weren't planing on staying on this for too long. Dh is months away from achieving his masters. And I should be graduating in less than a year. I guess we would just have to buckle down harder and hope nothing happens between that time.

No. I was told to apply for medicaid BECAUSE I have a preexisting condition. I was told that anyone who can not afford medical on their own, who has a preexisting condition IE PCOS, heart conditions, diabetes etc, can get medicaid for care management. That is why I applied. I have had 2 ER D&Cs and a ruptured cyst already. Its not fun and it is very expensive.
I didn't get turned down for anything. I was told that I might have to stop going to school, because they no longer take school into consideration while delegating the hrs you must volunteer in order to get the assistance.
