What does weight mean?

Looking at my daughters progress report it has 'weight' on it. 

Its attached to each test, quiz and project, and its a percentage. 


there is no legend to tell me :( 


can someone let me know.

It means that the grade is not straight points.  That test may have 50 questions and another test can have 100 questions. The first test is not worth 1/2 the second test.  And all the tests could add up to 20% of the grade even though the essay worth 30% of their grade is technically less points.  Does that make sense?

How much it's worth towards he total grade. like homework could be worth 20 percent of the grade. 30 percent for quizzes 20 percent for projects and 30 percent tests. Meaning bombing a test or his has more impact on her grade than not doing homework

Items are weighted different. Instead of averaging all the assignments.For example tests may be 50% of her overall grade.
