This is going to sound HORRIBLE, but I have to wonder... Do we all look alike?

To begin, and I am going to make this in all bold caps, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE OR NATIONALITY AND IS NOT IN ANY WAY RACIALLY MOTIVATED!!  PLEASE KEEP ALL THAT OUT OF THIS POST.

I have noticed that people of certain groups do look a lot alike.  For instance, take my sister.  She is the typical blond haired, fair skinned, blue eyed regular build woman. I and my mother have dark brown/black hair, we have tan skin and brown eyes.   When we three go out some where, and we lose my sister in a crowed, we find that it is hard to pick her apart from other women similar to her.  We will be running around looking for her, and we will see 10-20 other women who look exactly like her, and we wont notice it until we are right up on her.  Not just the color of her hair and skin or build, but facial structures are the same. Which is what makes it almost harder to pan her out in a crowed of other women who look just like her.  We have to do a double or triple take sometimes, as horrible as it seems lol!

But I notice that when I am looking for someone like me or my mom, its easier for me to find her in a crowed, than it is for my sister.  She has a similar problem with us or anyone like us.  So she even says that people that share similar likeness all look alike to her too.  And being around a lot of other people, I have noticed they will say the same thing.

Which makes me wonder, as a curious kind of like a scientific stand point, do we only see differences in people who look like us?  Like do blond haired, fair skinned people see the differences in each other more so than those of us who have dark hair and darkened skinned?

Maybe you have a facial recognition disorder, I saw a documentry on it.  Can't remember the name of the condition, but it did run in families...... Just a thought.

interesting question but my answer is I don't think so. my oldest ds and his cousin under the age of 1 looked like twins. they are 15 yrs apart. a friend of my oldest ds is dating a guy who looks almost exactly like my deceased step son. my oldest ds that looked like his cousin was dark hair dark eyes. the boy that looks like my ss is red haired and blue eyed. I met a guy that looked just like my granpa in houston. he was mexican my grandpa was indian. and my grandpa looked like john wayne literally.

There have been studies about this exact topic. It's very fascinating.

I have to say that I found it very interesting that when we traveled to Scotland, I noticed lots of people that had similar characteristics of my husband and his family (he's 1st generation American). I saw his nose on tons of people. It was wild.

I remember reading an article in a soc class that said  that it's more difficult to see the differences across racial lines like all black people look the same to white people and vise versa.

There ya go.  I have noticed something like that before, now that I think of it.  When we took my grandmother to a powwow once, we could hardly tell her apart from all the other elder american indian women.    Lol we had a fun time playing " where is grandma" ( a play on, where is waldo... I know that sounds horrible doesn't it lol.  Hey grams thought it was funny lol)

Maybe it has something to do with who you are.  Like anon here said a lot of people in Scotland look like her husband.  Maybe it does have something to do with where people are from or their heritage =/  Like some race of people hold more prominent features that other races rarely have.  Like with Scottish people.  A lot of them seem to have the typical red hair, fair skin, freckles, and greed eyes.. and a similar facial structure.  Not all of them of course but a good number of them do have that in common.
