I'd like to have a nanny just to take on vacations with us

I don't really care to have a nanny. I work. So when I am home with my kids, I value that time and enjoy taking care of them. However, when we go on a cruise every summer with my parents, I want a nanny SO BAD. The cruise ship has a daycare, but your day gets broken up because they close for lunch and then you have to pay for evening care and we don't really want to pay extra for that. So basically, right about the time I'm getting comfy by the pool, it's time to get the kids from daycare. And I don't get to enjoy the evening life because I have the kids. In the past, during 7 day cruises, I've only used the daycare maybe 3 days because I do enjoy having fun with them, especially at the ports where they can play on the beaches. So I usually keep them with me the majority of the time anyway. But let me tell ya, it would be nice to be able to go dancing or to the casino at night and have a nanny to take care of them. DH and I work hard and we want to enjoy our vacation too and if we pay for it, we want to take advantage of everything there.

And, no, my parents don't really take the kids. They hang out with them some but it's when I'm there and still primarily responsible for them.

Paying extra for daycare would probably be cheaper than paying a nanny a salary plus his/her cruise ticket. And wouldn't you like to see your kids at least at lunchtime?  And do you really want to leave your kids at home in the care of a total stranger for a whole week?

I don't blame ya one bit! Vacations don't feel like vacations when you have to take care of kids too. Find a teenager to take on vaca with you!

Go on a Disney cruise. The kids clubs never close. They are open from 9am to midnight and they are fantastic. My kids loved them.

I say hire a teen like the previous person said. I've known people to take a babysitter with them on vacation.

I'm sure that would be a college student's dream job. You will be able to find someone easily. Have fun on your vacation!

It is awesome having a nanny on vacation, although expensive. You have to pay for her trip plus her salary. But it is amazing.

I felt that way on our last vacation. I so badly wanted to just lay by the pool, but that's impossible with a toddler. Her favorite spot in all of Hawaii was the hose that you wash the sand off with when you come up from the beach! Obviously I don't want to use a nanny for the whole vacation, but having someone who is paid to follow them around the pool for a few hours would be great!

I said I don't even use the daycare every day. Most days I keep the kids with me. It's primarily for the night life that I would want the nanny.

Hire a teen you know and trust for the cost of you paying for their cruise ticket and they stay in the room your kids stay in. Then at the times you have your kids that can be their time to do what they want, yet you still get a sitter when you need it.  My little brothers girlfriend did this exact thing for a friend of her family when she was a high school senior. She liked the arrangement. But because she was still a teen she had to still kinda hang out with the family while in port just because they didn't want anything to happen to her.
