Most won't agree with my choice(going off of medication)

I am off my medication for a little bit so I can take diet pills. I am bipolar. Before any of you jump on me to hard, I am only doing this until Monday( or Tuesday if the meds don't come in on Monday). I could have called in this week for my medication but I didn't. If I have been feeling super down or off the wall, I would not make such a decision.

Also, one day I want to be off of meds altogether or at least take them only when needed. I have read on here that moms have been able to do this. So, for any of you that chose to do so please give me some advice. Thanks

If I DON'T respond, I am off doing things around the house while the kids are asleep. I will be back as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience:)

Depekote causes weight gain. like major weight gain. Talk to your doctor about your concerns!

It is a pain in the ass . I have cut back on certain foods and getting smaller but not at the rate I would like. I am more active too.

I hate being fat. I  hate it so much. I hate how I feel about myself:(

why dont you just change meds?

My shrink wants me on a better sleep routine before we can do that. My kids are sleeping better now but she won't until I am asleep by at least 10 pm for a while before she can work further with meds.

The reason why people with bipolar disorder take mood stabilizers is so that they won't have mood swings. You need to take your meds all the time to prevent the mood swings from happening, not just taking some thing when the shit hits the fan. Going off meds for even a few days deprives your brain of chemicals that it needs to stay stabile, so purposely going off them for a couple days is still going to mess with you. Not a Good idea.

Oh honey, be careful, take it from someone who did that and was sick as a DOG from it.  Check with your doctor, you probably have to "step down."  Be careful, please!  But good luck sweetie!

Thank you. I will call tomorrow and hope the pills ready by Monday. These comments in here are making me think more rational. I was going to call on Monday and hope they come in.

Good for you, sweetheart.  Talk to your doctor.  Believe me, I wouldn't wish what I went through on anyone.  No need for you to suffer more than you are.  Be good to yourself, you are going to be ok.  God bless, keeping you in my thoughts, ok?

That seems really odd, maybe look for someone else.

you're playing with fire.  going off your meds alone is hazardous enough, but adding in diet pills (which are almost all stimulants of some sort or another) at that time is just begging to have a manic episode.

but no one's going to be able to tell you that in a manner you'll hear right now, so I guess we'll see you when you check in after the crash.

It is odd because every appointment is about my sleep routine. I understand how important REM sleep is. I understand how important melatonin is for me. I get that. However, I have a friend who is bipolar and doesn't go through all of this.

She wants me to be asleep during the dark hours and wake up when it's dark. However, how about during the summer? It gets light as early as 6. I would have to be in bed before 10.

I am a licensed clinical social worker within a large mental health center, non compliance with medication is a real problem with your diagnosis. Please be consistent and consult with your psychiatrist not strangers on an Internet site around your mental health issues.

Try St. Johns Wort, or marijuana if you're in a legal state. Natural and no side effects. Google natural depression remedies, and maybe you'll find something beneficial. Good luck!

NO NO NO NO NO.... St Johns Wort is contraindicated in Bipolar... and marijuana can trigger hypomania... yes St. Johns Wort can help major depression but OP has bipolar... I am all for natural medicine but what you are suggesting could get someone killed

This sounds like the Darkness/light-control study done by Dartmouth. You know how people with bipolar are not supposed to use the light boxes for SAD? Same theory only they found they could snuff out a hypomanic episode by keeping the participants in darkness for 14 hours a day... as they got less manic they edged back the darkness amount and then when early signs of depressive episodes showed up they increased the hours of light.

I was going to wait until Monday to call it in but after reading this, I am going to  call tomorrow for meds. I also didn't know about agression and diet pills.
