SS & Late fee

I have survivor benefits from my husband passing away not too long ago... The office has not sent my check yet and I am still waiting making my rent a DAY LATE the ss office is making me come up there tomorrow and fix things which will still make me have to wait for check in mail?? .... I Just got a paper under my door saying they my apts are charging me $50 for late fee.... But It's not my fault my ONLY income has not came in... Is there anything I can do about this??

You should have called your landlord ahead of time...  It's not their fault your only income has not came in yet.  But 9 times outta 10 most places are willing to work with you if they are made aware of the situation in a timely manner.  Maybe call tomorrow??

 You don't have a grace period? I had 7 days after the first when I rented. All you can do is explain the situation to your landlord.

Set you SS up on direct deposit.

You can speak with the landlord about your financial situation but it is at their discretion to charge the late fee or not.

Why isn't it direct deposited? Sd17's is deposited on the 3rd Friday of every month..without fail

Op, just talk to your landlord and explain the situation. They may waive the fee if this is the first time you are late.

All checks from the social security administration must either be direct deposited or put on their debit card starting March 1st which is probably why you didn't receive it. The only exception is if you were born before May 1st 1921.
