I took my girls 3 & 6 to the dentist today. They both had cleaning and xrays. That was 167.00 with insurance. My 3 year old has 3 cavities. 2 of them require a crown. The lady handed me a price of paper with a total patient payment due of 581.67 that's after insurance. : ( I don't know what is the point of paying for dental insurance if it doesn't pay for even half. Maybe I need to quit my job and get on Medicaid. : /

Medicaid doesn't cover everything dental related either.

Dental insurance is crap. We have excellent medical but the denatl portion always leaves us with a large bill. The only free things are basic cleanings/x-rays every 6 months.

Medicade doesn't cover crowns and I am about to get a crown on my front tooth and it is $1400.  I say you got off pretty easy.

I feel you, DD has horrible teeth, no matter how many times I brush and floss or make her brush and floss, she has a new cavity each time. Do you and her dad both work and have the ability to get dental insurance? If so, if might be worth having her dad put her on his too, it's usually only a couple of dollars a month and then, since you have a primary and secondary insurance, you will never pay a co payment. That's what we did. Dd is on ex's insurance and dh put her on his too., it saves us so much money

If I were you, I'd be more worried about the lack of care your children's teeth seem to be receiving.

Wow I just took all 3 of my kids Monday and paid out of pocket $500. That was cleanings, xrays, 1 filling, and a tooth extraction. I dont believe Medicaid covers dental though?
