I was a victim of a dog attack

When I was about 5 years old I was at a cook out. I had to use the bathroom so my mom asked the owners if I could go in the house. As she walked me up the steps and down the sidewalk to the front door, I tripped on the sidewalk in front of the owners dog.
As soon as I hit the ground the dog was on top of me. I was pinned under its body as it bit my face. My mom screamed and was kicking the dog. This didnt even get the dogs attention.
After what seemed like forever, my brothers heard my cries and my moms screams. They came running.
By the time they got the dog off me I was a bloody mess. They thought the dog took my eye. They rushed me to the hospital where I got cleaned and fixed up. Even though I looked my worst the day after, with two black eyes, it wasnt as bad as it could have been. I didnt lose an eye and I healed really well. I got lucky. It could have been my life.
I still have a tooth mark on my cheek to remind me of that day. Most of my other scars are hidden under my hair and brow.
This dog wasnt a pit bull. It wasnt even a rotti. This was just a plain old mutt. Any dog can attack at any time. Trust no dog! ( that you dont know, no matter the breed)

Edit: well, I guess I couldn't expect much more out of this group than to rip words apart and twist them for an argument lol.
So, ill be more clear. When I said trust no dog I mean it doesnt matter the breed. Pitts and Rottis get a bad rep. Dont let your guard down when you see a black lab. That dog is capable to do just the same as a pit. Obviously, im talking about dogs you dont know, not your pet.
...............

Update: Someone mentioned Cesar Millan. I have watched an episode or two of the dog whisperer in the past but its been a long time.
So, I looked it up on netflix and have been watching it for a week now. What a genius! Well, when it comes to dogs, at least. Lol
I have learned many things I am applying to my own dogs. I still stand firm on no dogs in my face, because of my past, but I have learned a lot about dog body language and your energy.
My thoughts on dogs I dont know has been reaffirmed by watching the show. A lot has to do with not knowing the owner. Cesar shares my same thoughts on it not being the breed that is bad, it is bad ownership you have to worry about with any dog you do not know.
I have learned about my own body language towards unfamiliar dogs. Even though im cautious of any dog I dont know and dont trust them since I dont know what kind of owner they have, I need to watch my own body language and energy I may communicate to that dog.

I'm glad you're okay.  What happened to the dog?

I was attacked by a husky at age 2. She eventually let me go. I love dogs but any breed has the ability to bite or attack. They are dogs and they do not think like us. Always use caution and proper training and handling. BTW I was a vet tech and volunteered at the local shelter to help train strays/abandoned dogs so things like this didn't happen.

It's a shame that these many years later you still hold onto all that anger.

I trust my dogs entirely.

I was a volunteer at an animal shelter and got bit more times than I can shake a stick at. I have a scar on my ear and on my inner thigh. It's true, any breed of dog can bite, just like any breed of dog can be nice and never bite.

I think that would be something hard to let go of.  There is no down side to being cautious
