I am writing an essay and need 3 good "reasons," that I could expand on. All I really have right now is, to prepare kids for the future, but that seems to categorize everything, and I can't think of 2 other topics. So if you have 2 more ideas or a better idea for me let me know thanks!!

To control their environment.

The strict parents in my community at work tend to control the kids exposure to their peers because they feel they are a bad influence on their children (so they are not allowed to play with the big group of kids, they can't come to the after school program because of the other kids, and there are many events they can't attend because of their religion, like Halloween).

In all fairness, I don't blame the parents. I had to excuse a child the other day for calling a peer a cunt. Many of the children are amazing, but there are also kids with issues who impact the whole group.
