What do you think of the name.....*edit*

Donnatella? If we have a girl, this is what she will be named.

Edit- the name is after my grandmother, who passed from pancreatic cancer a few years ago....if that changes anyone's mind.

I think it is an ugly name. Just because a name has history, doesn't mean the name sounds nice, looks nice or something someone would be happy to have.

I was named after my great-grandmother too!!!  And, even though she died about a month after I was born, I always felt a connection to her, because I was named after her.  It's a great way to honor your grandmother and it's a beautiful name in its own right.

And, yes, it is hard, but there's nothing that can be done about it.  At least your name has a special meaning and connection...not too mention it's a lovely name.  In my opinion, I'd rather have a name that has a special connection like this, rather than naming the baby something like Emily (oh so popular) but spelled Emmalee, or Eimile, or Emelie, or Emelly in order to be "original" but would condemn the poor baby for a lifetime of correcting spellings and pronunciations of the name.

Thanks! Personally, I think its kind of gross that grown women are willing to make fun of a name that obviously means a lot to me, but whatever! Isn't it so hard when a name is a name first, but then is made famous by something ridiculous!

It's cute, but as you see, you'll need to be prepared for a lot of mutant turtle jokes.

However, every name can and usually does get twisted into something. My name is pretty innocuous... Dora.  First, way back in the 70's when I was a very sensitive tween a game show came out with the line "Dumb Dora was sooooo dumb" and the audience would holler back "HOW DUMB WAS SHE????"  Gosh that made my life hell for a while.

Now I just get a lot of Dora the Explorer comments.

Name your baby what you want and don't worry about it.  It can always be shortened to Donnie, Donna or Ella, all of which are pretty cool too.

This.

Your reason is sweet but you cant change peoples first reaction.

You could call her Donna or Ella. Or save it as a middle name?

Makes me think of the teenage mutant ninja turtrles - Donnatello.

I think of the ninja turtles.. haha

But I think the fact that the name would be sentimental to you.. and a tribute to your grandmother is great..

My daughters are named after a great grandmother and my grandfather..

I lost my grandmother to lung cancer in November.. I'm absolutely gutted, and sorry for your loss too.

Don't care what others think of names you love.. THEY got to name their children, you get to name yours.

And if your daughter hated her name, she's got more options than just the full name.. Donna.. Or Ella..

Or Ella..

Quoting JanineDeer:

It's a nice Italian name, I like it.  But you know she will end up being called Donna.
