Abuse or learning experience?

Today I told my 4 year old that if he didn't get his boots and jacket then he was going out into the rain as he was. Five times I told him and so when it came time I pulled him from the house where it was raining and sleeting.

I got told it was abuse by a friend, but I think it was a learning experience. He won't do that again, I think.

Seriously I do not see the problem and I do not coddle or shelter my kids from a safe learning experience. He is fine.

What do you think?

So what age do we start letting our kids learn from their own mistakes?

A learning experience.  He's 4 and knows better, I'm sure - can't let your kids walk all over you!

At 4, I'd have helped them along.

though, I wouldn't call it abuse for handling the way you did...

A 4 year old can put on his own boots and jacket.

Its not abuse and they do have to learn someway
