My 10 month old has had issues breathing since she was born but on and off it gets so bad that she can hardly breath and the poor thing is miserable. She can't sleep or eat much and she's coughing/wheezing non stop.
A couple days ago I brought her in and the doctor thought she might have allergies and prescribed her an allergy medication and oral steroids. I'm very conservative when it comes to medication and steroids in infants scares the crap out of me.
The allergy prescription won't be available until tomorrow evening. I'd hoped to start those first and see if they would help without the need of steroids. But her breathing is SO bad today. AND YES, IVE GIVEN THEM TO HER. I JUST WANT INPUT, REASSURANCE, ETC FROM THOSE WITH EXPERIENCE
So about steroids. Have you given them to your very young child? Were there side effects that outweighed the benefit. Did they work immediately or do they require prolonged use to work? If I give her a dose now do I have to complete the series like with antibiotics?
Thank you for not attacking me. I'm only looking to help my child.

Im so with you on being conservative in using meds. But if your BABY cannot breathe properly- that is the time to say Ok, medication. seriously.

The steroids would open the airways enough for real breaths to draw through.

My dd has a form of asthma that constricts her airway caused by her muscular dystrophy. she uses a steroid inhaler. It is soooooo much different than body builder stuff. And it isn't for long term use. I wouldn't fret. Get the baby to breathe is the main objective
If you don't trust this doc maybe find a.new one
