I had to call the police on my 9 year old this morning :(

We've been having trouble out of our 9 year old son for quite some time. He's in therapy and is getting ready to see a psych Dr tomorrow.

For a while now, he's given us trouble about getting up and going to school. He says he hates school and his grades reflect that. He swears that there are no issues (bullies, etc.) and he just doesn't want to go. We've had to go to the school before over other kids picking on him. He said those things are better. His only excuse: he's tired. He goes to bed at 8:30pm and sleeps until 6am.

As for what happened this morning: He got up, got dressed, and when it was just about time for the bus to run, decided he wasn't going. His daddy got up, they had a screaming match, and ds takes off into the woods behind the house. Dh was able to talk him out at first, getting him to come back in the house. As soon as he told him he was taking him to school, out the bavk door and into the woods again. I call the county sheriff and they send an officer out. He was not very nice to ds (telling ds that if his attitude didn't change, he'd end up in juvie) but it seemed like it woke him up a little. He still wouldn't talk to us, but went on to school.

He's got a stubborn streak a mile long but I'm scared for him. I don't want to see him end up in juvie and then the prison system later. He's very smart, but flat out refuses to do hardly any work at school. I'm at a loss.

Anyone have any advice? Things the psych Dr should look for? Could this be ODD?

And this child can be the biggest sweetheart you ever laid eyes on at times. It's like a switch flips. One minute he's a sweetheart, the next it's like he's the spawn of satan and nothing makes him happy.

Oh wow im so sorry you guys are having such a hard time.. Are you sure he isn't being bullied still? I can't help but think there has to be a reason why he doesn't want to go to school..
