How accurate is this show? I really like it, but I'm somewhat confused by their lifestyle?

DH and I watch it. I think it's pretty accurate. What part confuses you?

My Mum's side are Icelandic and descendants of vikings.

The main guy (I can't remember any of their names) & his woman have a farm, right? I assume most people farm or have a trade of some sort. What is the purpose of their raids? Were they really as barbaric as the show portrays?

Ragnar! Yes they have a farm. They farm to live I believe.

They raid to find valuables etc. I think they were a lot like the show portrays, yes. They raided for riches to please their gods too I'm pretty sure.

I'm going to have to do some research. I'm fascinated by this time period now.

1 mom liked this

It's definitely very interesting. My grandpa on my Mum's side has a very strong Icelandic name. MY name was ALMOST "Vigdis Johan"....Eeeek. lol! Vigdis was my great grandmother. They settled on Johannah for my middle name (pronounced Yo-Hannah). My great grandfather was Johan.
