I was wondering how common it is to get paid maternity leave in the US these days. Neither of my jobs offer paid leave.

I didn't have paid leave. But I could use my vacation and sick leave to cover the time off.

If you have been employeed for 12 months, you should be covered under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). It allows you to take off 12 weeks (paid or unpaid) and your job is protected. You can't be fired.

Nothing. I was allowed to take as long as I want but I used all my paid time off and then went unpaid for a while. It sucked. Two years later and it's still hard for me to have a lot of time off saved up since the kiddo gets sick sometimes.

American companies overall suck at supporting working mothers.

I got 12 weeks paid with my first, but it was hours I earned by working. I got 6 weeks off, 3 of them paid with my second because I had worked there less than a year when he was born.
